Karen Talbott, MS,CVT, RVT, Fear Free studied biomedical science at Texas A&M. She later returned to school at Cedar Valley College to study veterinary technology. She is a 2020 graduate from Tarleton State University with a degree in veterinary practice management. In December 2021, she graduated from Tarleton State University with a Masters of Science in Management with an emphasis in Leadership.
She has worked in the veterinary field since 1989 in a variety of venues including private practice, shelter medicine, specialty practice, emergency medicine, academia, and corporate medicine. Karen has special interests in anesthesiology, training and development, and practice management. One of her greatest passions is helping others achieve their goals in the field. She has taught at the University of Texas at Arlington and Linn Benton College in Albany, Oregon.
Ms. Talbott has worked in corporate medicine for the past 22 years. Most of her roles have been in the field of management. She wants to continue to grow within this area. Therefore, she decided to get her master’s degree in management. Tarleton State University offered her a scholarship to help complete her master’s degree based on the high GPA she maintained while getting her bachelor’s degree.
She hopes to further her education by obtaining her doctorate degree in epidemiology from Texas A&M University. Her desire is to also obtain her CVBL certification.
Her desire to see the veterinary profession move forward led her to serve on the technician association boards in both Texas and Oregon. She currently serves on the CE and licensure committees for NAVTA.
In her spare time, Karen works with her service cat, Raider, to help train other rescue cats to become diabetic alert cats. They also visit diabetic children in the hospital as well children in hospice care. Also, she enjoys drawing and painting. Recently, she has begun Deck Diving Competition with her dog, Reveille. During football season, she is a devoted Texas A&M Aggie fan.
Recently, Karen and her husband, Eric, relocated to the Waxahachie, TX area with their Brittany dog, bearded dragon and three very spoiled feline sons. They also have two grown daughters and twin grand babies.
